Update 2 - Open Breach (We Need You!)

By: Laura, 31/07/2024

I realise that I haven't shown much information about the game that is being made here, so I decided to dedicate this post to doing just that.

SCP: Open Breach is a multiplayer horror game, just like SCP: Secret Laboratory. However we are aiming to replicate an earlier casual version of SCP:SL whilst still maintaining originality like alternative SCP roles and an art style unlike any other SCP game.

We aren't ready to share what SCPs we will be including yet, but we do want to confirm that we will definitely make an effort to make sure the iconic SCP team from Secret Laboratory is included at some point. However that all being said, SCP-173 will be playable day one. (Model pending, Untitled-2004 cant be used)

We have some ambitions that we aren't entirely sure are possible, but we want to aim for them, like extensive modifiability of the server so you and your friends don't need to install anything more than the game to connect to a heavily modded server that might have things like entirely new scps, sectors, items, or roles.

The biggest thing that we need at the moment are developers, especially programmers. We want to use the Godot Engine as a lightweight, accessible, and emerging engine. I am fully confident in the engine's abilities to graphically get us where we desire. But if you aren't a programmer, we still need you. Even QA testers or people that can give feedback on WIP content.

Update 1 - Art Direction

By: Laura, 21/07/2024

The game will be utilizing precisionism and the works of early to mid 20th century illustrators to create a clear way of illustrating the environment and the players. These works were used in Valve's 2007 Team Fortress 2, which will be a major component in how the final look of the game will present itself.

We will be minimizing the use of polygons whilst still looking for high quality visuals to fit the style we are aiming for but also to help ease performance on low end devices.

Each character will have a very specific range of colors for easier distinction of what a player from afar may be, alongside unique body shapes to further differentiate each role for quicker identification of what a player has.

The facility will have different themes dependent on what sector the player will find themself in. We should expect that the SCP Foundation has infinite resources at their disposal to create the most advanced research facilities imaginable in the 70s, which may look far more advanced than what is perceived in the public eye at the time.

The Facility Map! Work In Progress.

The research sector will be based on laboratories used in Antarctica and universities, aiming for players to feel like they are in a state-of-the-art research facility. The containment sector aims to replicate an underground brutalist-style bunker with a bunch of concrete, metal, and brick. The living sector is both a living space and an office space, so this will be inspired by hospitals.

The Surface sector will be based on Antarctic research facilities, there will be civilian and logistics orientated parts to this sector, which will blend seamlessly together with an area between the two that operate the facility with complex computers.
